Flowers of Love in Dark Barren Lands
by Zia Eblaghie

by Zia Eblaghie
This book is an autobiographical portrayal of Zia Eblaghie‘s life story and of his family history. Influenced by and embedded deeply within the Baha’i Faith, this is a journey beginning in Iran in the early beginnings of the Babi and Baha’i Faiths, and leading through the political and religious extremism of the 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution. His memoir continues through Ceylon and, following the conflict and strife of the Sri Lankan civil war, eventually to Canada in 1985. This book takes a deep dive into Zia’s religious, political, philosophical, and historical experiences, including religious fanaticism in Iran, and into a range of Zia’s cultural experiences on his travels throughout the world.
My main objective for writing this book is to portray my past generations’ endeavors and my own journey as we sought to plant the seeds of love in the barren lands of ignorance and superstitions in Iran.
In my story, I have disclosed only a glimpse of the depth of our struggles, and the persecution of other Baha'i families, under the influence of religious extremists. These pages bear witness to the challenges we faced and the determination it took to plant and nurture the flowers of love with the hope that their fragrance would one day replace the hatred and fear we witnessed.
It is my hope that in sharing this journey, others may find inspiration to continue planting their own seeds of love.
